Alejandro Monteverde, the award-winning filmmaker known for his inspiring and thought-provoking work, is set to release his latest project, "Zero A.D.". The spiritual thriller, scheduled for release on December 19, 2025, marks the third collaboration between Monteverde and Angel Studios.

Born on July 13, 1977, in Tampico, Mexico, Monteverde studied film at the University of Texas at Austin. He made a name for himself with his debut feature Bella (2006), and his subsequent films, including Little Boy (2015), Sound of Freedom (2023), and Cabrini (2024), showcase his talent for blending spiritual themes with cinematic intensity.

Zero A.D. is set against the backdrop of the Massacre of the Innocents as described in the Gospel of Matthew. The emotional intensity of this historical event forms the central focus of the film, as it explores themes of resilience, faith, and human dignity.

Rod Barr, an American screenwriter known for his storytelling that blends emotional depth with spiritual resonance, collaborated with Monteverde on the film's script. Barr's writing is marked by a commitment to underdog narratives and transcendent themes like hope, determination, and service.

Deva Cassel stars as Mary in the film, with a supporting cast including Sam Worthington, Ben Mendelsohn, Gael García Bernal, and Jim Caviezel as Herod the Great. The film was originally titled "Bethlehem", but was later renamed to reflect its historical and spiritual setting.
