Motorcycles, design, and fashion take center stage at Hyderabad's innovative pop-up café exhibition
In the heart of Hyderabad, the Flying Flea pop-up event brought together bike and design enthusiasts for an unforgettable experience. The event, held at Katha, showcased a unique collaboration between Flying Flea and designer Venkat Goddam.
The collaboration, inspired by a shared philosophy of freedom, imagination, and carrying less weight while dreaming more boldly, was evident in the diverse displays. Venkat Goddam's designs for the event celebrated movement, dualities, and living lightly. His pieces, including a corseted gown printed with crowned warrior portraits and a hot pink organza embroidered with swirls and faces, exuded subtle main character energy and embodied a tone-on-tone fantasy of contradiction.
Quite Mischief, another designer featured at the event, paired delicate cutwork with embroidered warrior motifs, embodying quiet confidence without needing validation. Eclipsed and Unbothered transformed portraits into surreal pink prints on satin, moody yet strong. Gothic Day Dreams contrasted cream and black, embroidered with haunting words and layered tulle, carrying quiet drama.
The Flying Flea bike, inspired by a light bike from World War II, has been redesigned for urban roads. Guests were given a guided tour of the bike's features and background, as well as its design innovations. The pop-up also featured a photoshoot around the bike by Akshay Rao.
The cafe experience at the pop-up was equally unique. Katha Speciality Coffee's 'Project Sardi' brought winter warmth and strawberry delights to Hyderabad. Coffee and food plates were renamed based on motorcycle elements, adding a fun twist to the usual cafe experience.
Venkat Goddam believes in living lightly and letting go of anything that weighs him down, both as an artist and a designer. This belief in living lightly and rebelling against excess or unnecessary burdens fuels his artistic process. The collaboration allows him to create with clarity, freedom, and joy, while also living a lighter, more fulfilling life.
The designs on display at the Flying Flea pop-up event are layered with meaning, weaving strength, softness, and contradiction. Whether you're a fan of bikes, fashion, or both, the Flying Flea pop-up event was a must-visit for a unique blend of creativity and environmental responsibility.
