Hierer's career in technology began in 2005 when he graduated with a vocational diploma from a business school in Munich. He started his apprenticeship as a specialist in system integration at Siemens and gained two more years of experience as a system administrator. From 2007 to 2012, Hierer worked as a consultant at the Munich-based system house CLP.
In 2012, Hierer joined Adobe, where he held various positions for nearly seven years before becoming the Partner Account Executive EMEA in 2017. As the Partner Account Executive EMEA, he managed three of Adobe's most important distributors. In April 2021, he moved to IT service provider Crayon (now SoftwareOne), where he worked as a business development manager until his passing. In 2019, he joined the German remote maintenance provider TeamViewer as a channel account manager.
Hierer was also active on social media, where he openly shared about his serious illness for months before his death. His posts provided a sense of his personality and resilience. A fundraising campaign was launched to support his surviving wife before his death, but the foundation or organization that initiated the fundraising remains unclear.
