Munich welcomes a new structure to take the place of the Olympic Tower
New Attraction: The Skylift Coming to Munich's Olympic Park
The Olympic Park in Munich is set to welcome a new tourist attraction, the Skylift. This innovative observation tower is scheduled to open soon, providing visitors with a unique view of the city and the Olympic Park.
The Skylift, a mobile observation tower, will lift visitors to a height of 70 meters, offering an alternative view while the Olympic Tower undergoes renovation. The tower uses a Paralift system, allowing two gondolas to ascend while the other two descend in parallel.
The Skylift is accessible at ground level, making it usable by wheelchair users. Each gondola can accommodate up to 20 people, and small glass windows in the floor provide a thrilling view during the ride. Anti-reflective panoramic windows offer a clear view of the Olympic Park area.
The Skylift is the brainchild of Timo Kollmann, who has invested several million euros in the project and holds the operational contract during the renovation of the Olympiaturm. The exact opening date has not been specified, but it is expected to coincide with the Olympic Tower's planned reopening in the first quarter of 2027.
Ticket prices for the Skylift are as follows: Adults - 10 Euro, children (0-3 years) - free, children (4 years to 1.30 m) and seniors - 7 Euro. Visitors with a disability pass receive a 50 percent discount.
After October 12, the Skylift will be moved to the Olympic Park and serve as a viewing platform until the Olympic Tower reopens. During this time, it will also give a brief performance at the Wiesn.
The operation of the Skylift is similar to that of the Umadum Ferris wheel at Munich's Ostbahnhof. The Skylift's reopening has been delayed and is now scheduled for September 8.
The Skylift is expected to be a new tourist attraction in the Olympic Park, providing an alternative view while the Olympic Tower is under renovation. The Skylift's unique design and accessible nature make it an exciting addition to Munich's tourist offerings.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Skylift and its upcoming opening in Munich's Olympic Park.
