Detmold, a focus municipality for sport and inclusion since mid-May 2025, has seen significant strides in making its sports offerings more accessible and inclusive for everyone. The driving force behind this transformation is the "Sport inclusive" project, which began on July 1, 2023, and is funded by the LWL Social Foundation gGmbH.

The project's primary aim is to sustainably expand the range of movement and sports offerings for people with disabilities. In just over a year, the number of inclusive club offers in Detmold has increased to a commendable 24. This growth is a testament to the project's success and the city's commitment to inclusivity.

Open sports offers, such as the F.I.T. mobile, the open sports hall, and the Hermi run, have been adapted to be inclusive for everyone in Detmold. These changes ensure that no one is left out of the city's active lifestyle.

To facilitate this transformation, 46 trainers have been specially trained for inclusive sport in Detmold. The project covers the training costs until April 2026, demonstrating a long-term commitment to this cause.

The sports helper training in Detmold is also being adapted to cater to the needs of people with cognitive impairments. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can participate and enjoy sports.

For inquiries about the "Sport inclusive" project in Detmold, Daniela Lang can be contacted at daniela.lang@ourwebsite or by phone at 05231 977 201. Additionally, an open office hour has been set up at Heimspiel OWL, Marktplatz 3, every Tuesday from 10 to 13 o'clock, for information, advice, and support on inclusive sports offerings and funding opportunities.

The promotion of the participation of people with disabilities in sport will remain a central concern of the Detmold sports development planning even after the end of the project. Detmold also receives additional support from Special Olympics NRW to further strengthen inclusion in sport.

The future of inclusion in sports in Detmold is in the capable hands of "incluedo," a youth and integration assistance provider in the OWL region focused on inclusion and integration support. This organization will help Detmold continue to strengthen its commitment to inclusivity in sports.

In conclusion, Detmold's "Sport inclusive" project is making a significant impact on the city's sports landscape, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can participate and enjoy sports. The project's success is a shining example of what can be achieved when a city prioritizes inclusivity and accessibility in sports.
