Museum Maintained at Redesign Market Location
Dresden Secures Future of Traffic Museum for the Next 30 Years
In a move that will delight both locals and visitors, the city of Dresden has secured the future of the popular Traffic Museum on the Neumarkt for the next three decades. The city council has agreed to a perpetual usufruct contract with the Free State of Saxony, the owner of the property, ensuring the museum's continued operation.
The Traffic Museum, housed in the Johanneum for nearly 70 years, will remain at its current location for the coming years. The long-term solution found by Dresden secures the museum's future as a family attraction on the Neumarkt. The city will take over all obligations for the property, ensuring its maintenance and upkeep.
The existing lease agreements for the museum were due to expire by the end of 2025, but the Free State of Saxony agreed to an extension under certain conditions. The city council has given approval for the museum's continuation at its current location, and the final formal approval is still pending but considered secure.
Culture Mayor Annekatrin Klepsch is pleased with the result of the negotiations regarding the Traffic Museum. She expressed her delight, stating, "This is a great day for our city and its cultural heritage. The Traffic Museum is a beloved institution, and we are committed to ensuring its continued success."
The city of Dresden will provide an annual subsidy of 80,000 euros to help maintain the museum. This financial support, combined with the long-term security provided by the perpetual usufruct contract, ensures the museum's future operation. The long-term solution for the Traffic Museum is intended to ensure its museal use of the Johanneum for the popular family museum on the Neumarkt.
The state capital Dresden is taking responsibility for the Traffic Museum, securing its future location on the Neumarkt. This long-term solution does not affect the museum's status as a family museum, and the museum's future operation is ensured by this decision. The city of Dresden has shown its commitment to preserving and promoting its cultural heritage, and the Traffic Museum is a shining example of this dedication.
