Music company BMG names Monti Olson as the head of music publishing in North America
Monti Olson, a music industry veteran with over two decades of experience, is set to rejoin BMG in a senior role. Olson, who previously held positions at Universal Music Publishing Group, Warner Bros Records, Global Entertainment/Global Music Publishing, BMG Music Publishing, Peermusic, Windswept, and MCA Records, will return as the Executive Vice President, Publishing, North America.
In his new role, Olson will lead BMG's publishing A&R and creative administration teams, driving new signings, catalogue acquisitions, and overseeing the development and execution of growth strategies across BMG's US operations. The move marks a significant return for Olson, who previously served at BMG from 2018-2022, overseeing US music publishing and leading expansion and business development.
Thomas Coesfeld, the CEO of BMG, expressed his excitement about Olson's return, stating that BMG is building something special, and Olson's expertise and industry knowledge will undoubtedly contribute to this endeavour. Olson, in turn, expressed his pride in being part of the company, stating that BMG has always been home to him.
Olson most recently served as president and founding partner of Litmus Music, a music rights acquisition company. During his tenure, Litmus executed high-profile deals, including acquisitions and partnerships with Benny Blanco, Opus Music Group (Juice Wrld, Ozuna, Maluma), Randy Newman, Keith Urban, and Katy Perry. He will now reunite with a roster of publishing clients he partnered with during his previous tenure, including the estate of Juice Wrld, Diane Warren, D'Mile, Jeff Gitelman, Rob Grimaldi, and John Legend.
During the transition into his new role, Olson will report to Thomas Scherer, BMG's president of global catalogue recordings and music publishing, North America. Scherer, too, expressed his enthusiasm about Olson's return, stating that it reflects BMG's commitment to being the most effective, songwriter-first partner in music publishing.
With Olson's return, BMG continues to strengthen its position in the music industry, leveraging his extensive experience and industry connections to foster growth and success.
