Musician Neil Young criticizes Donald Trump in his latest political protest track titled 'Big Crime'
Neil Young, the Canadian-American dual citizen and renowned rocker, debuted a new song titled Big Crime this week, criticising the Trump administration. The song, played at Neil Young's show in Chicago with his band The Chrome Hearts on Wednesday, lambasts fascist rules, soldiers on the streets, and the slogan "Make America Great Again."
In the chorus, Young sings, "There's big crime in D.C. at the White House." The lyrics of the song also reference Trump sending thousands of National Guard troops and federal law enforcement officials into Washington.
Young has been a vocal critic of Trump in the past, and has previously told Trump to focus on saving America from the mess he made instead of arguing with celebrities. His latest criticism of Trump comes after Trump escalated his feud with Bruce Springsteen, calling for a "major investigation" into the rock legend. Springsteen had branded the Trump administration as "corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous" during a concert in England.
In a post on his website, Young expressed concern about potentially being denied entry to the U.S. after his European tour due to his criticism of Trump. He compared the potential barring of his re-entry to a violation of Freedom of Speech. Young also wrote that if he is barred from re-entry, ticket holders for his U.S. tour may not be able to attend his concerts.
Trump is considering expanding the deployments of National Guard troops and federal police to other Democratic-led cities, including Baltimore, Chicago, and New York. This move has been met with criticism from many, including Young, who has stated that he loves America and its people, music, culture, and history.
Neil Young posted the song's lyrics on his Neil Young Archives website, inviting his fans to join him in his protest against the current administration. Young urged Trump to stop worrying about what rockers are saying and focus on the issues that matter to the American people.
