National team discussion by Hoeneß:

In a recent interview during the anniversary show "30 Years of 'Doppelpass' on Sport1, Uli Hoeneß, a prominent figure in German football, expressed his concerns about the current state of the German national team. Hoeneß warned against discussing the World Cup or even the title, suggesting that everything needs to fit for Germany to succeed, but at the moment, it doesn't.

Hoeneß emphasised the need to focus on the essentials again. He believes that playing with the same team and being well-rehearsed is crucial in football. This sentiment was echoed in light of the German national team's recent losses in the World Cup qualifiers and the Nations League final tournament.

The team has suffered a series of defeats, including a 0:2 loss to Slovakia in the World Cup qualifiers and losses against Portugal and France in the Nations League. Stefan Effenberg, another experienced football personality, found these results quite dramatic.

In contrast to these setbacks, Hoeneß expressed his support for Julian Nagelsmann as the right coach for the German national football team. Nagelsmann's contract as coach was recently extended until 2028, beyond the 2026 World Cup. Hoeneß believes that Nagelsmann's approach to football, which emphasises consistency and familiarity within the team, is key to the team's success.

Hoeneß also expressed concerns about coaches constantly changing things in their team. He suggested that more focus should be on football in Germany and less on transfers. He believes that it is better to lose the first game than the last in a competition, indicating a preference for a steady and strategic approach over hasty changes.

These insights from Uli Hoeneß provide a thoughtful perspective on the current challenges facing the German national team and offer a roadmap for improvement based on the principles of consistency, familiarity, and a focus on the essentials in football.
