In the world of the NBA, drama often unfolds both on and off the court. The latest instance of this came during Game 2 of the 2025 Western Conference semifinals, where Golden State Warriors' power forward Draymond Green was issued a technical foul.

Green's technical foul during the second quarter of the 117-93 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves was not his first controversial incident. With a history of heated exchanges with officials and other players, Green has found himself in the spotlight once again.

This particular incident stemmed from a disagreement with the official after receiving the technical foul. Green was seen yelling at everyone nearby before being sent to the bench. The cause of the technical foul was a hit to Timberwolves center Naz Reid's head with Green's elbow.

Green's technical foul last season totaled 18, finishing third in the NBA. This is the highest number since the 2018-19 season when he had 22. Despite his prediction of having fewer than 10 technical fouls in the 2024-25 season, Green ended up with 13 in a suspensions-shortened season.

Off-court, the drama continued as De'Aaron Fox, a player from a different team, weighed in on the situation. Fox made a joke about Green on FanDuel TV's Run It Back, likening Green to a wrestler clotheslining someone and then looking at the referee as if to question the foul. The joke was shared on Twitter by the account @Fullcourtpass on September 3, 2025.

Fox also acknowledged that complaining to referees can be warranted at times, stating that refereeing can be "godawful" at times. Interestingly, Fox sided with Alperen Sengun in a previous dispute between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors.

Green, however, believes there is an "agenda to try to keep making me look like an angry Black man." This sentiment underscores the ongoing issue of racial bias in sports and the need for continued dialogue and action towards promoting inclusivity and fairness.

Despite the controversy, Green has maintained a double-figure technical foul count in 11 consecutive seasons, a testament to his passionate and often fiery playing style. As the playoffs continue, it remains to be seen how Green will navigate these challenges and what further drama may unfold.
