Neanderthal Statue and Stamps Linked to Düsseldorf Carnival Celebrations

The House of Carnival in Düsseldorf is hosting a small yet significant special exhibition, featuring historical carnival post from the city. Peter Feuser, a local figure, has curated this exhibition, which includes a special stamp commemorating the 175th anniversary of Düsseldorf's carnival.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the stamp, priced at 95 cents. The stamped envelopes, along with the stamps, are available for purchase at the foolish post office within the House of Carnival for 1.50 euros. The foolish post office, located at Zollstraße 9, will open its doors on Friday, February 14, at 11:11 a.m.

The special cancellation mark on the Valentine's Day stamps, valid until March 13, can only be used for a limited period of four weeks. The stamps themselves, however, are indefinitely valid.

In addition to the stamps, the exhibition also showcases a card featuring Josef Feuser, Peter Feuser's father, in uniform. Josef Feuser was the commander of the Prinzengarde Rot-Weiss from 1961 to 1964.

The exhibition also includes postcards with humorous motifs from the state capital, offering a glimpse into the city's carnival spirit.

Visitors can view the exhibition and purchase the special stamp at the foolish post office from Monday to Thursday, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., until Ash Wednesday.

Interestingly, the role of forwarding the letters sent from the "narrische Poststelle" in the House of Carnival will be taken over by the post office in Düsseldorf. These letters, after being stamped with the special cancellation "200 Years of Carnival in Düsseldorf" in Weiden, will be forwarded to their intended recipients in the city.

The surplus from the sale of the stamps covers the production costs, making this exhibition a self-sustaining project. For those in Düsseldorf or visiting the city during the carnival season, this exhibition promises to be an interesting and engaging experience.
