Nearby Görlitzer Park, the almost completed playground in Alt-Treptow is now taking shape.
Redesigned Playground at Lohmühlenstraße in Alt-Treptow
A playground at Lohmühlenstraße in Alt-Treptow is undergoing a significant transformation, as part of a city-wide strategy to enhance the quality of public green spaces. The project, selected by the working group "Safety, Cleanliness, and Prevention," aims to create a more varied, safer, and inviting play area that fosters social interaction and safety.
The redesign includes the addition of palisades and balancing elements, making the ascent more challenging yet safer for children. The playground is also being made barrier-free, ensuring it is accessible to all. One of the popular features remaining is the wave slide on the hill, which has been given a new base of wood chips and improved path guidance.
Councilwoman Dr. Claudia Leistner emphasises the goal is to create an open and inviting space for children and adults alike. The renovated playground is intended to contribute to better utilization of public space, making it more visible and lively.
Meanwhile, a debate continues regarding the fence construction and nighttime closure of Görlitzer Park. Some residents fear that such measures may displace problems to neighboring neighborhoods and other green spaces. The Berlin Senate, however, plans to build a fence around Görlitzer Park to allow it to be closed at night.
The playground renovation is funded by the district's steering committee for increased safety and cleanliness in public spaces, and forms part of a wider initiative to improve the city's green spaces. This redesign is sure to bring a fresh and exciting new play space to the community, and further the city's commitment to creating safe, accessible, and inviting public spaces for all.
