Netflix unveils an initial glimpse at Pride and Prejudice; however, the question remains whether it can maybe live up to the Colin Firth original standard.

In an exciting development for fans of Jane Austen's beloved novel, a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is set to grace our screens on Netflix in 2026. This six-part limited series promises to bring the hilarious and complicated characters to life in familiar and fresh ways.

The new adaptation, directed by Euros Lyn, has already begun filming in England. Among the talented cast, we find Rufus Sewell as Mr Bennet, Jack Lowden as Mr Darcy, and Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet. Emma Corrin will star as Elizabeth Bennet, with Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet and Hollie Avery and Hopey Parish as Kitty and Mary Bennet respectively, making their debut in the series.

Jamie Demetriou has been cast as Mr Collins, Louis Partridge as Mr Wickham, and Rhea Norwood as Lydia. A notable change is the portrayal of Lady Catherine de Bourg, with Fiona Shaw taking on the role in the initial adaptation, while Ruth Gemmell will step into the character in the Netflix version.

The 1995 drama adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, starring Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennet, is already in the top 100 shows of all time. With such a high bar set, it remains to be seen if the new adaptation will be enough to please fans of the Colin Firth version. However, Dolly Alderton, Writer and Executive Producer, has stated that she feels lucky to be a part of retelling the Pride and Prejudice story.
