In an unexpected turn of events, a fraud duo was apprehended on the A59 near Hassels on August 26, 2025. The suspects, aged 22 and 30, were spotted using a cunning scheme to obtain cash from bystanders.

The incident began earlier on the same day, as the duo was driving a white VW Golf. They were observed near the Benrath junction, where a 61-year-old woman from Solingen had noticed them before the junction. The suspects, dressed in suits, were standing by their dark car on the hard shoulder, appearing to be in distress.

As the woman approached, the suspects claimed their car's tank was empty, their bank card wasn't working, and they had no cash. In a twist, one of the suspects leaned into the right lane and waved wildly, giving the impression of being in trouble. The unsuspecting woman stopped at the same control point and handed the 22-year-old suspect a low three-digit amount of cash.

However, their plan was foiled when a civilian patrol spotted the suspicious activity. The white Golf was stopped and checked, leading to the arrest of the two suspects. The 61-year-old woman's name, unfortunately, is not provided in the available search results.

The arrest continued on August 27, 2025, when the same suspects were observed on the A59 again. This time, they were attempting to get other vehicles to stop. The arrest took place at 14:20 between the junctions Benrath and the motorway intersection Düsseldorf-South. Despite being uncooperative and aggressive at the scene, the suspects were apprehended.

The nature of the scheme is not fully disclosed, but it appears the suspects were offering a "golden" ring from their finger as part of the ruse. The details of this scheme are currently under investigation.

This incident serves as a reminder to stay vigilant when encountering unusual situations on the road. If you suspect fraudulent activity, it's always best to report it to the authorities.
