New educational institutions debut in London, marking the start of the 2025 scholastic year for students.
In London, the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) welcomed students back to school on Wednesday, with two brand new facilities opening their doors. Among these was the White Pine Public School, located in a newly developed subdivision.
The principal of the White Pine Public School, Keely Creighton, led the school staff in building a community around the new subdivision. Parents and their children eagerly lined up half an hour before the first classes, excited to start the new academic year.
One such parent was Shelby Chisholm, whose daughter no longer had to endure a long school bus ride. Instead, she would have a short walk to school. On the other hand, Maximus Stele, a Grade 9 student, expressed his uneasiness about having to wake up earlier for school buses.
The White Pines Public School boasts a diverse student population, representing various cultures. Some students even walked into brand new schools on their first day. However, not all facilities were fully operational on the first day. The library, gym, and daycare center were yet to open, but are expected to be functional soon.
Interestingly, White Pine Public School's enrolment neared its 800-student capacity on opening day. Despite the lack of portable classrooms, the school was prepared to accommodate the influx of students due to area growth.
Across Southwestern Ontario, tens of thousands of students returned to classes on Wednesday. Ahsanul Hafiz's son was among them, enjoying his short walk to school instead of a long bus ride. It was a day of new beginnings, filled with excitement and anticipation for the year ahead.
