New wheelchair classes anticipated in town, set to follow the innovative Spatenstik initiative

In the heart of our city, a significant step towards inclusion and integration is being taken with the launch of the Rollstuhl- und Rollatorenparcours project. This initiative is a key component of our city's action plan to implement the UN-Behindertenrechtskonvention (UN-BRK), aimed at raising awareness and sensitivity towards people with disabilities.

The project, which is part of an effort to enhance the quality of life for those affected and strengthen community spirit, was recently inaugurated on a meadow adjacent to the Skateplatz. The lower meadow in the city park was chosen as the ideal location for the parcours, where various types of ground cover, such as cobblestones, gravel, or wood chips, will be tested.

Malina Kulik, the new Inklusionsbeauftragte of our city, explained the aim of the project: "The Rollstuhl- und Rollatorenparcours is designed to make the ideas of inclusion, integration, and intergenerationality come alive and visible in our city."

The idea for the project was presented by Hannelore Leibold from the Seniorenarbeitskreis. She emphasised that even the smallest height differences can pose significant challenges for people with disabilities, and this project aims to address those challenges head-on.

The local municipality's Department of Urban Planning is responsible for the construction of the wheelchair and walker course, and construction began in March 2024.
