Newly unveiled: Duo of reclosable, single-material sealing cup covers by Greiner
In the ongoing pursuit of sustainable packaging solutions, Greiner Packaging and Grupo Lantero have recently unveiled innovative sealing lids designed for mono-material, reclosable, and recyclable packaging.
Greiner Packaging's new Click On and Click In sealing lids are particularly noteworthy, offering a secure and reclosable solution for larger-volume products that are consumed over time. These lids help protect the product from contamination and extend its shelf life, while also contributing to improved recyclability.
The Click On lid, designed for straightforward application without modifying the cup, offers two tab styles for increased versatility. It can be sealed using standard sealing technologies, including thermal and ultrasonic sealing, and can be customized for individual customer requirements. The lid maintains strength even when the cup is on its side or upside down, ensuring a secure seal at all times.
Meanwhile, the Click In lid requires a minor modification to the cup rim for the locking function, integrating seamlessly with thermoformed and injection-moulded cups. Once sealed, the Click In lid can be pressed back onto the cup after opening, providing leak protection in transit.
On the other hand, Grupo Lantero has introduced the ReKeepEat solution, a mono-PET tray and resealable lid designed for extended food freshness and simplified recyclability. This solution utilizes recycled content and aims to streamline both the manufacturing and disposal processes by avoiding mixed materials. The ReKeepEat solution is designed for improved recyclability, reducing the use of mixed materials.
Both the ReKeepEat solution and Greiner Packaging's self-separating packaging solution are currently being used by several major retailers, including Greggs, Asda, Lidl, M&S, Tesco, Waitrose, and Morrisons, for their own-brand instant porridge pots. These developments form a two-component pack, eliminating the need for a third component like aluminum foil, further enhancing their sustainability.
While the exact materials used in the manufacturing of these solutions have not been specified, both components can be manufactured from polypropylene, PET, or rPET, taking a mono-material approach to improve recyclability and lower CO2 emissions.
These innovative packaging solutions mark a significant step towards more sustainable, reclosable, and recyclable packaging for larger-volume products. By offering secure sealing, improved recyclability, and reduced use of mixed materials, these solutions are set to make a positive impact on the environment and contribute to a more circular economy.
