NBC Sports Brings Immersive Sound to NFL Kickoff Game on Peacock

NBC Sports has made history by presenting the NFL Kickoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys on the Peacock streaming service, marking the first time any NFL streamer will broadcast games in Dolby Atmos immersive sound.

The enhanced coverage includes Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR), HDR 10+, and Dolby Atmos, providing viewers with an unprecedented viewing experience. This move signifies a continued focus on advanced audio and video technologies in sports broadcasting.

Peacock, the leader in live streaming, according to Patrick Miceli, the chief technology officer for Global Streaming & NBCUniversal Media Group, is the first streamer to support Dolby Atmos for NFL games. This move follows NBC Sports' plans to stream weekly regular-season "Sunday Night Football" games in Dolby Atmos, further elevating the viewing experience for football fans.

The NFL Kickoff Game will be broadcast in Dolby Atmos immersive audio, offering a more realistic and engaging listening experience. This is not the first time Dolby Atmos has been used in a major sports broadcast. In February, Gray Media's Super Bowl broadcast from eight of its NextGen TV Fox affiliates offered enhanced coverage of the championship game, with WVUE in New Orleans, the game's host city, launching some combination of Dolby Vision HDR, HDR 10+, and Dolby Atmos prior to the Super Bowl.

In addition to the NFL, Peacock has secured record-setting NFL exclusives and has plans for the NBA. The Olympics hub on Peacock has received awards, demonstrating the platform's commitment to delivering high-quality content.
