Nissan reorganizes leadership for corporate transformation
Nissan Motor Co. has announced a significant management revamp, with Ivan Espinosa taking the helm as the company's new CEO. Espinosa, who has been with Nissan for over two decades, assumes the role following a wave of management missteps, including falling profits and a failed merger with Honda Motor Co. last month.
In a press statement on Tuesday, the company announced several new appointments. Jeremie Papin has been appointed as CFO and an executive officer, while Mitsuro Antoku takes on the role of chief quality officer. Eiichi Akashi has been appointed as CTO and executive officer, replacing Kunio Nakaguro in the role. Toru Ihara has been appointed as chief HR officer.
The leadership shuffle continues with Manabu Sakane as chief of strategy acceleration, Tatsuzo Tomita as chief of total delivered cost transformation, and Teiji Hirata as chief monozukuri officer and executive officer, overseeing manufacturing and supply chain management. Shohei Yamazaki has been appointed to oversee Nissan's affiliate companies, and Guillaume Cartier has been appointed as CPO and chairperson of the management committee for AMIEO, with expanded responsibilities in global marketing and customer experience.
Stephen Ma has been appointed as chairperson of the management committee for China. The executives, Sakamoto and President and CEO Makoto Uchida, only retain their director positions until the June meeting.
Espinosa believes the N7 EV sedan, which Nissan launched in China in partnership with Dongfeng, is the early step towards Nissan's future. He mentioned a 360 degree turnaround in terms of Nissan's capacity. Returning to profitability and improving operations is a priority for Espinosa.
The company has also made reductions in global production and offered buyouts for its U.S. workers. Espinosa did not comment on reconsidering a merger with Honda in this context.
Nissan's incoming CEO, Ivan Espinosa, is currently the chief planning officer. The search results do not provide information about any new appointments at Nissan Motor Co. that were not announced in the press spokesman's statement on Tuesday.
The company's general meeting is scheduled for June. With the new leadership in place, Nissan is poised to make a fresh start and navigate the challenges ahead.
