Nominees Announced for Grimme Online Award 2025

The Grimme Online Award 2025 has announced nominations for 25 digital publications, along with three additional nominations for the special prize "Artificial Intelligence." The award ceremony will take place on October 8, 2025, in Marl.

The jury will select up to eight prize winners from the nominations, including a winner for the special prize "Artificial Intelligence." The nominees for this category are the "Dawn Chorus" app, "Eternal You" scrollytelling, and WDR mouse theme page on artificial intelligence.

In the "Information" category, the YouTube reportage "Gaza: how aid workers experience the war" by STRG_F and "Israel-Palestine Diaries" by Shai Hoffmann are outstanding nominations. The nomination committee, which includes Matthias Leitner, Brigitte Baetz, Maren Demant, Yasmin Saidi, Yağmur Ekim Çay (connected), Prof. Michael Schwertel, Jun.-Prof. Dr. Karin Boczek, Jo Schück, and Inge Seibel, commended many submissions for their careful research, clear editorial stance, and high design competence.

Digital publishing is acting cautiously in a time of multiple crises, according to Matthias Leitner's report. This year's awards focus on the exploration of Israel and Palestine, the historical examination of the NS era, DDR, and migration history.

The "arolsen school" educational platform of the Arolsen Archives, which conveys social issues through multimedia minigames, is among the nominees. Mirko Drotschmann's YouTube channel "MrWissen2go," which has been reaching millions of people with clearly presented knowledge for many years, is also a nominee.
