Nordic and Baltic leaders, including Frederiksen, gather for a meeting with Zelensky in Copenhagen.

In a significant development, more than 30 heads of state and government from Western countries will convene in Paris this week to demonstrate their support for Ukraine. The gathering, led by France and Britain, aims to provide additional aid to Kyiv's military and discuss strategies to help Ukraine fend off Russia's invasion.

Notable attendees include French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (via video link), German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (via video link), British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama (via video link), Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be present in Paris.

The meeting comes as NATO chief Mark Rutte expects the talks to firm up plans on security guarantees for Ukraine. Rutte also anticipates that the discussions will pave the way to get a clearer picture on US involvement. However, at this point, the United States is not part of the group of around 30 countries.

The exact commitments from the US, particularly from President Donald Trump, remain vague. Trump has expressed interest in supporting the Europeans in ending the war but has ruled out any American troops on the ground in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also meeting with Nordic and Baltic leaders in Copenhagen on Wednesday. Among topics for discussion will be the production of Ukrainian weapons on Danish territory. The leaders will also discuss how the Nordic-Baltic countries can ensure further support for Ukraine.

Interestingly, the group may deploy some of its own soldiers to Ukraine if a ceasefire is agreed. The deployment's aim is to deter future Russian aggression. However, no details have been provided about the specific security guarantees or US involvement.

Zelensky will attend the talks in Paris on Thursday with leaders from a so-called coalition of the willing. The meeting is a testament to the international community's ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia's invasion.
