Norris sets the fastest practice time in session two.
Lando Norris Tops Second Free Practice Session at Monza
Lando Norris, the British racing driver for McLaren, set the fastest time in the second free practice session at Monza, Ferrari's home Grand Prix. Norris's blistering lap time of [unspecified time] was set on the high-speed circuit, putting him at the top of the timesheets.
Norris's fastest time during the session was a mere 0.083 seconds faster than Charles Leclerc, Ferrari's home driver, who finished the session in a position narrowly behind Norris. Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time World Champion, finished in fifth place, while Nico Hülkenberg secured the highest-placed position for a German driver, finishing in eighth position.
However, Norris is not currently leading the Formula 1 World Championship standings. That honour goes to his teammate, Oscar Piastri, who has amassed 34 points, leaving Norris pursuing him in second place. Carlos Sainz finished the session in a position between Piastri and Max Verstappen, who is currently third in the standings.
Despite Norris's strong performance, it was not all smooth sailing for the McLaren driver. He retired due to a McLaren defect during the previous race in Zandvoort, but no new information was provided about the incident.
Elsewhere on the track, Kimi Antonelli had a less-than-ideal day, spinning his Mercedes and getting stuck in the gravel. A crane was required to retrieve the car, but Antonelli was able to return to the track for the second session.
The second free practice session did not see any significant changes in the positions of the top drivers compared to the first session. The team manager (team principal) of Norris and Piastri in Formula 1 is Andrea Stella at McLaren.
The Italian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday at 3:00 PM, with Piastri leading the standings. Fans will be eager to see if Norris can close the gap and take the lead in the championship.
