Exhibition at the National Council Highlights Influential Works on Politics

The National Council in Austria is currently showcasing a series of works that have significantly impacted politicians and political figures. This exhibition, a testament to the power of art in shaping societal discourse, features contributions from various sectors, including economics, administration, politics, artistic fields, municipalities, and districts.

Among the distinguished individuals representing their respective parties are Walter Rosenkranz, President of the National Council for the FPÖ, and Doris Bures, the Third President for the SPÖ. Peter Haubner, the Second President of the National Council, represents the ÖVP. In the Greens, Leonore Gewessler serves as the Club Chairwoman, while Yannick Shetty holds the same position for NEOS. August Wöginger is the Club Chairman of ÖVP, and Philip Kucher leads SPÖ as its Club Chairman.

The Club Chairman of FPÖ, Herbert Kickl, and the President of the Federal Council, Peter Samt, also contribute to the political landscape of the National Council.

The works on display have their roots in diverse origins. Before 2023, contributions came from authorities, artists, museologists, and everyday history documenters, who collectively shaped exhibitions reflecting political changes and societal developments. For instance, Ulrike Liedtke acknowledges the role of artists and museologist Benjamin Ochse in assembling images for an exhibition that mirrors German history.

Firsthand efforts by Holocaust survivors and resistance members shortly after World War II also played a crucial role in creating exhibitions that exposed Nazi crimes and shaped historical understanding. These exhibitions serve as a poignant reminder of the past and the importance of art in shaping our collective memory.

The exhibition at the National Council provides an engaging and thought-provoking exploration of the interplay between art and politics, offering visitors a unique insight into the works that have influenced and continue to shape the political landscape of Austria.
