Nottingham Forest Football Club has announced the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo as head coach, following a 3-0 loss against West Ham in their latest Premier League game. The club is reportedly in talks to appoint a successor quickly, with Australian manager Ange Postecoglou set to take over the helm.

Santo's tenure at Nottingham Forest was marked by significant achievements, including saving the club from relegation and securing a spot in European competition for the first time in 30 years. Last season, the club finished a commendable seventh in the Premier League, their highest position since 1994/95.

Despite these accomplishments, Santo has been critical of Forest's transfer activity since the end of last season, and it appears that his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis has changed. The club's statement thanked Santo for his contribution during a successful era at Nottingham Forest and acknowledged his role in the 2024/25 season.

Santo initially dismissed rumours of his potential dismissal, stating that he had spoken to Marinakis and was confident that the reports were inaccurate. However, it seems that the decision was made during the international break, as Santo himself suggested it might happen.

The new sporting director at Nottingham Forest, Edu, is reportedly taking a more hands-on role in signings. With Postecoglou at the helm, the club is expected to continue its push for European competition and titles.

Nottingham Forest will participate in the Europa League instead of the Conference League, due to Crystal Palace's demotion for breaching UEFA's multi-club ownership rules. Postecoglou, who was previously manager of Tottenham Hotspur, is among the candidates for the vacant position at Nottingham Forest.

Santo became the head coach in December 2023, replacing Steve Cooper. The Portuguese manager leaves Nottingham Forest with a special place in the club's history, having led them through a period of significant success. The club wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.
