Neuss and RheinLand Insurance Group Launch Extensive Reforestation Project

The city of Neuss, in partnership with the RheinLand Insurance Group, is embarking on an extensive reforestation project along the A46 in the Westpark area. This initiative marks the start of a long-term collaboration with the Environmental Protection, Urban Green, and Climate Agency, which has further projects planned.

The action in Westpark is not the first time the RheinLand Insurance Group has shown its commitment to the environment. Previously, they supported large-scale tree plantings, including the creation of the "RheinLand Forest" on Himmelsberg in Neuss. For the current project, they will finance approximately 9,000 saplings.

The bluebell tree (Paulownia) is being considered for this reforestation, which is also a potential future tree in forestry. Alongside this, a mixed stand of trees will be established to allow for quick visual screening for allotment gardens.

Unfortunately, an area of approximately 1.8 hectares of mountain maple trees, affected by tar spot disease, had to be cleared earlier in March. The replanting with climate-suitable trees, including those with heat and drought tolerance, will take place after the felling work.

Mayor Reiner Breuer expressed his gratitude to Lutz Bittermann, a member of the board of the RheinLand Insurance Group, for their contribution.

The city of Neuss collaborated with the environmental organization NABU on the reforestation of Westpark near the A46, and NABU financed approximately 9,000 young trees for the project.

The RheinLand's support for the reforestation at Westpark is part of its enhanced environmental management, aiming for CO2 neutrality in business operations. This initiative is yet another step towards a greener Neuss.
