Oasis may have emerged victorious in the Britpop struggle, yet 10 tracks marked a more daring turn and shaped Damon Albarn's career path with Blur.
Damon Albarn, the lead singer of Blur and the creative force behind Gorillaz, has had an illustrious career spanning over three decades. His music has evolved from the Britpop era to experimental pop, showcasing his unwavering drive to push boundaries.
In 1995, Blur found itself at the heart of the Battle of Britpop, a much-publicized rivalry with Oasis. Despite losing the skirmish with Oasis's Roll With It when Blur's Country House topped the charts, Albarn acknowledged that Oasis had won the battle.
Blur, however, emerged from the Britpop era as a different band. They became more inventive and experimental, as evidenced in their 1997 self-titled fifth album, which featured the standout song Beetlebum.
Albarn's debut solo album, Everyday Robots, was released in 2014. The album, which featured a sparse sonic palette, saw the most mesmerizing moment being You & Me. The title track from his 2021 album, The Nearer The Fountain, The More Pure The Stream Flows, sounded more like something from Sigur Rรณs than from the creator of Parklife.

Apart from his solo work and Gorillaz, Albarn has also been involved in other projects. The Good, The Bad & The Queen, a band featuring Albarn, released their self-titled debut album in 2007. In 2012, he produced Bobby Womack's album The Bravest Man In The Universe.
More recently, Africa Express, a collective led by Albarn, released their most recent album in 2025. The album introduced Latin flavors and Mexican music into the mix, with an irresistible calling card song titled Soledad.
