The historic Sand district of Bamberg's old town will be the centre of festivities for the Sand Kirchweih, taking place from August 19 to August 26, 2025. To accommodate this popular event, several road closures and detours will be in effect throughout the city.

From August 19 to August 26, road closures will occur on Lower and Upper Sand Street, Elisabethen Street, Karolinen Street, Schranne, Markusplatz, and Schweinfurter Street. The reverse connection from Markus Bridge to Markus Street will also be closed during the same time period.

Drivers should expect road closures on Lange Street on Sunday, August 24, from approximately 1 PM, due to the traditional "Fischerstechen".

During the event, replacement license parking spaces will be provided at "Am Leinritt" by the Building Authority and in the Lower Sand Street. Additional parking spaces will be available in Steinert Street, Kapuziner Street, Pfeufer Street, and at Schiffbauplatz.

For those affected residents with parking spaces in the areas with the letter codes "J" and "D", parking will be available in the adjacent license areas of Holzmarkt/Weide (letter code "H"), Jakobsberg (letter code "R"), and Altstadt (letter code "D") using their parking permit.

The connection between Schweinfurter Street and Lower Sand Street will be closed daily from 6 PM from August 21 to August 25, 2025. The detour for this closed connection will be via the Regensburger Ring during the same period.

It is important to note that driving through these areas will be mostly impossible during this period. Residents and visitors are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel.

The Sand Kirchweih is a much-anticipated event in Bamberg, and the road closures and detours are necessary to ensure the safety of all attendees and the smooth running of the festivities. We encourage everyone to enjoy the event responsibly and to respect the local community during this time.
