Northern Offshore Services Orders 12 E-Class Crew Transfer Vessels

Northern Offshore Services (N-O-S) has announced a significant expansion of its fleet with the order of twelve E-class crew transfer vessels (CTVs). The new vessels, designed to meet the evolving needs of the offshore wind industry, are being built by the Polish shipyard Crist S.A. in Gdynia.

David Kristensson, Group CEO of Northern Offshore Services, stated that this expansion is not just a fleet increase, but a statement of belief in the market, design, and the company's ability to lead innovation. The first of the new E-class CTVs, M/V Explorer, is set to arrive in Europe over the coming days.

The E-class vessels build upon the proven design of the D-class series with new hybrid technology developed by N-O-S. The vessels are prepared for charging the batteries directly from wind turbines when on site, and the main engines and generators are combined with batteries to ensure optimized propulsion.

The new E-class vessels feature improved hull design and an advanced automation system to optimize energy efficiency. They also have a large cargo capacity and are designed with a future-proof platform supporting the transition to electric and alternative fuels.

The batteries in the E-class vessels can be recharged from shore, and the vessels are equipped to be charged directly from wind turbines when on site. This feature makes them well-suited for the offshore wind industry, where reducing carbon emissions is a key priority.

N-O-S stated that this is one of the largest CTV orders in history, with the agreement also including several options for additional orders. Four E-class CTVs are already on their way, and eight more are now on order.

The E-class vessels were previously built by the Singapore-based Peguin shipyard, which also built N-O-S's R-Class CTVs. However, the company did not name the shipyard for the current E-class vessels.

The new E-class vessels are part of N-O-S's commitment to sustainable and innovative solutions for the offshore wind industry. The company announced the E-class crew transfer vessel series featuring hybrid technology back in 2019.

With the arrival of the M/V Explorer and the additional E-class vessels, Northern Offshore Services is set to revolutionize the offshore wind industry with its innovative and sustainable approach.
