Ohio State takes the top spot in AP Top 25, with LSU, Miami, and Florida State joining the top five ranks. Meanwhile, Alabama experiences a significant drop.
The Associated Press Top 25 college football rankings have undergone a significant overhaul following the first week of the 2025 season.
Ohio State, who clinched a thrilling victory over preseason No. 1 Texas, have claimed the top spot in the rankings. This marks the first time the Buckeyes have held the top position since the 2023 season.
Miami, who moved up five spots to No. 4, secured a impressive victory over Notre Dame, propelling them into the upper echelons of the rankings. This is the highest position the Hurricanes have held since they were ranked No. 5 in 2004.
Meanwhile, Boise State's 34-7 loss at South Florida saw them drop out of the poll entirely.
The ACC and Big 12 conferences each boast four ranked teams. The ACC's top-ranked teams are No. 5, 8, 14, and 17, while the Big 12's are No. 12, 16, 24, and 25.
Florida State, who were 15 spots outside the Top 25 in the preseason, have made a dramatic climb to No. 14 following their victory over Alabama.
Utah, who beat UCLA 43-10 on the road, is the only other newcomer in the poll this week, joining Florida State at No. 25.
LSU jumped six spots to No. 3 after winning at Clemson, marking their highest ranking after Week 1 since they were No. 3 in 2012.
Georgia is ranked No. 5 in the poll, while Texas dropped to No. 7 following their loss to Ohio State.
The SEC conference leads the way with 10 ranked teams, including the top three. The SEC's ranked teams are No. 3, 4, 7, 10, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22.
The Big Ten conference has six ranked teams, including the top two. The Big Ten's ranked teams are No. 1, 2, 6, 11, 15, and 23.
Interestingly, the independent team ranked is No. 9.
South Carolina is in the top 10 in the regular season for the first time since it was No. 8 in December 2013.
In what could be an intriguing matchup, No. 15 Michigan will play against No. 18 Oklahoma this weekend. This will be the first meeting since Oklahoma beat the Wolverines in the Orange Bowl to win the 1975 national championship.
Kansas State, who followed up their season-opening loss to Iowa State with a last-minute home win over FCS team North Dakota, also dropped out of the poll.
Finally, it's worth noting that Alabama dropped from No. 8 to No. 21, their lowest ranking in 17 seasons. The fall of Texas to No. 7 is the biggest for a preseason No. 1 since Auburn dropped to No. 8 in the first regular-season poll of 1984.
