"Open Baroque Castle Event Scheduled at Proschwitz, Meissen on July 28, 2024"
Nestled in the heart of Saxony, Schloss Proschwitz is set to host a captivating event on July 28. The castle, built between 1701 and 1704 and currently owned by Dr. Georg Prince zu Lippe, offers a picturesque view of the vineyards, Meißen Castle, and the Elbe Valley.
The day promises a unique blend of history, culture, and entertainment. A wine, antique, and garden market will be held from 10 am to 6 pm, offering a variety of art, antiques, plants, and gardening tools, as well as food and drinks. Visitors can enjoy Proschwitzer wines and sparkling wines, Thuringian sausage, crepes, coffee specialties, and more.
For those with a keen eye for rarities, experts will be present to appraise on-site. The event is also open for traders with suitable inventory from specific areas such as art, precious metals, antiques, paintings, books, porcelain, jewelry, collectibles, plants, garden accessories, and artistic objects.
As a special treat, a falconer will bring a very large bird into the castle courtyard between performances. Bird of prey shows will take place at 12 pm and 2 pm, offering a fascinating glimpse into the world of falconry. The falconer conducting these presentations is Falkner Martin Meyer.
Music enthusiasts will be delighted by piano performances by Dr. Olena Khoruzha in the castle's ballroom at 11 am, 12 pm, and 2 pm. The performances will feature Romantic period pieces by Robert Schumann and Frédéric Chopin.
The castle park, an English landscape garden, covers 5 hectares and was laid out in the style of the early 18th century. Visitors can explore the park and admire the larger-than-life sandstone figure of the "Ritter von Proschwitz" from the 17th century. A medieval wine cellar is also part of the castle park.
Parking is available on the parking lot at the vineyard and above the castle. Public transport to the event involves taking a bus to the "Katzenstufen" from Meißen train station (information available at www.vvo-online.de). The address for navigation is 01662 Meißen OT Proschwitz, Heiliger Grund 2.
Admission to the event is €4 (€3 with SZ-Card), and children under 12 are free. Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich history, culture, and beauty of Schloss Proschwitz on July 28.
