In a recent crackdown on traffic violations, the city's traffic enforcement officers have reported a significant number of infractions, particularly in 30 km/h zones and areas near schools.

The most common offence was speeding, with a total of 1,184 warning fines issued. Those caught speeding on the Hellweg, where the limit is 50 km/h, face a hefty fine of 280 euros, a two-month driving ban, and two points in the traffic register. Additionally, 21 fines were issued, including two driving bans, for severe speeding.

The importance of adhering to speed limits near schools is emphasized by Christian Zaum, the head of the public order office, who considers speeding in these areas a serious offence. Similarly, parking too close to intersections and entrances can block the view of children crossing the street, posing a significant danger.

The city's traffic enforcement officers also recorded many violations in no-parking zones near schools. Repeated cases of parents dropping off their children in these zones were observed, which is considered a significant danger for other children.

To combat these violations, continuous speeding controls will be conducted, as emphasized by Christian Zaum.

The officers also issued warnings to thoughtless pedestrians and cyclists who parked on sidewalks and roads. Furthermore, the tow truck had to be called out 31 times due to parking violations.

A total of 47,016 vehicles were checked during the speeding controls, with all speeders caught by the five radar cars.

The drivers themselves are responsible for any traffic violations, penalties, and driving bans caused in areas with 30 km/h speed limits and near schools. It is crucial for all road users to be aware of the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations to ensure the safety of all, especially children.
