Over a hundred medals awarded in the All-Russian student competitions of 2024 were transported to Kamchatka.

In the remote region of Kamchatka Krai, a remarkable transformation has taken place in the world of sports over the past four years. This transformation has seen student teams from the region participating in 20-30 events annually, including boxing, kickboxing, judo, kyokushin, sambo, cross-country skiing, swimming, and GTO.

The success of these student athletes has been evident in the medals they've won. In 2024 alone, regional students brought home an impressive 120 medals at the All-Russian competitions, marking a significant achievement for the region. This victory represents a 1.5-fold increase from the medals won in 2019.

One of the standout athletes from Kamchatka Krai is Sheikh-Mansur Habibulaev, who became a six-time world champion in combat sambo in 2024. Despite there being no search results that identify him as the six-time world champion from Kamchatka, his accomplishments have undoubtedly added to the region's sports glory.

Lydia Klyueva, the director of RFSO "Yunost," praised the strength of Kamchatka Krai's student teams in various sports. She mentioned that their students have contributed an additional 120 medals to Kamchatka's tally, with 265 participants in high-level competitions.

The growth in sambo practitioners in Kamchatka Krai has also been noteworthy. The number of national sambo competitions has expanded from one to three or four per year. Saidamin Saduev, the executive director of the Kamchatka Krai Sambo Federation, highlighted that in recent years, athletes have had the opportunity to participate in major competitions, both within and outside the peninsula.

Looking ahead, the Far Eastern Federal District Sambo Championship is scheduled to take place from February 21 to 24, 2025, at the "Zvezdny" sports complex in Kamchatka. A total of 157 competitors will participate in the championship, representing Kamchatka, Khabarovsk, Primorsky Krais, Magadan, Sakhalin, and Jewish Autonomous Regions.

The increased funding for sporting events and trips for athletes outside Kamchatka Krai since 2020 has played a crucial role in this growth. With more opportunities for participation and competition, it seems that the success of Kamchatka Krai's student athletes will continue to soar.
