Europepasses the milestone of 1 million public electric vehicle (EV) chargers. Explore the top 10 nations spearheading advancements in charging infrastructure and electric vehicle adoption.

Over a million public electric vehicle chargers deployed across Europe; find out which countries are driving growth in charging infrastructures and electric vehicle proliferation.

In the rapidly evolving world of electric vehicles (EVs), Europe is making significant strides. As of the first half of 2025, the continent operates more than 200,000 publicly accessible Direct Current (DC) chargers, a testament to its commitment to a sustainable future.

Germany, Europe's largest car market, leads the pack with more than 185,000 charging points, making it the second country with the most charging points after China. Germany's commitment to fast-charging infrastructure and stringent emissions regulations has resulted in a relative share of DC charging stations that is among the highest in Europe.

The Netherlands follows closely with nearly 198,000 total charging points, boasting the most Alternating Current (AC) charging points at 191,050. Interestingly, the Netherlands also has the highest percentage of DC chargers, accounting for 42.5% of its total charging points.

Denmark, another frontrunner, has seen a 79% increase in DC chargers, reflecting the country's aggressive charging rollout strategy. These countries, with their strong EV sales and charging infrastructure, are shaping the market's future.

In fact, Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) reached a 17% market share across Europe in the first half of 2025, up from 13% in H1 2024. Growth was strongest in Spain (+83%), Czechia (+66%), and Poland (+61%). In Germany, EV sales grew by 35% year-on-year, with more than 47,000 new BEVs sold in June alone.

However, the challenge now is not only scaling installations but ensuring interoperability, grid readiness, and smart charging. To address this, EU rules mandate dense networks of high-power chargers along major transport routes, ensuring infrastructure growth.

Countries like Italy, Belgium, Austria, and Denmark have seen the biggest year-on-year increases in DC chargers. Yet, countries such as Italy and Spain still have just 3 chargers per 1,000 cars, highlighting the need for faster rollout.

Since 2018, EVBoosters has been the trusted executive search partner for Europe's leading EV Charging and e-Mobility companies, playing a crucial role in this transformative journey. As the landscape continues to evolve, the focus remains on creating a seamless, sustainable, and accessible charging network across Europe.
