Over fifteen billion Kazakhstani tenge distributed as bonuses to healthcare professionals in Almaty

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, additional payments were made to healthcare workers in Almaty's organisations as a form of recognition for their dedication and hard work. These bonuses were categorised into three risk groups, as outlined in an order from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated April 4, 2020.

The highest risk group, Group I, consisted of doctors, middle and junior medical staff in infectious hospitals, including intensive care units and other hospitals treating COVID-19 patients. A total of 6,795,746.1 thousand tenge was paid out to Group I. The bonus for each worker in Group I did not exceed 20 times the minimum monthly salary, ensuring fairness in the distribution of funds.

Group II, classified as high risk, included doctors, middle and junior medical staff in temporary hospitals, temporary departments, doctors and paramedics of emergency medical care, and those providing outpatient medical care. A total of 6,223,334.0 thousand tenge was paid out to Group II, with each worker receiving a bonus that did not exceed 10 times the minimum monthly salary.

Group III, categorised as medium risk, encompassed doctors, middle and junior medical staff in quarantine hospitals, drivers of emergency medical care brigades, and those providing outpatient medical care. A total of 2,123,680.0 thousand tenge was paid to Group III, with the bonus for each worker not exceeding 5 times the minimum monthly salary.

The total amount of these bonuses amounted to 15,142,760.1 thousand tenge. Since the start of the pandemic, approximately 8,000 employees of Almaty's healthcare organisations have received these additional payments to their salaries. The specific amounts of additional payments made to workers in Groups I, II, and III, as well as the exact amounts for individual employees in each group, are not publicly detailed in available sources.

However, it is clear that these bonuses played a significant role in recognising the efforts of healthcare workers during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic in Almaty.
