Pakistan's T20 cricket forefather since Shahid Afridi, Hassan Nawaz, emerges as the embodiment of their evolving cricket doctrine
Hassan Nawaz: Pakistan's T20 Purist with a Remarkable Six-to-Four Ratio
Hassan Nawaz, the emerging star of Pakistan's T20 cricket team, has been turning heads with his impressive batting performances. With 33 sixes in 18 T20I innings, Nawaz has struck an impressive 1.5 sixes for every four he has hit. This remarkable ratio, among Full member players with at least 400 runs, is the highest.
Nawaz's turnaround in the T20 format began with a Champions Cup campaign that yielded 312 runs at a strike rate of 142. His combination of speed and volume has resulted in an average of 26.06 runs per dismissal, a statistic that Pakistan have never seen before.
In the same sample, among Pakistan's top five T20I batters, Nawaz currently has the lowest average balls per six (18.01) after Afridi. He also ranks fourth for strike rate (166.8) and third for balls per six (7.58).
Mike Hesson, the former head coach of the Pakistan cricket team, moved Nawaz to the middle-order in May, with the emergence of Sahibzada Farhan at the top and protecting him from any early movement as potential motivations for the move.
Nawaz's approach to the game is possibly the ideal one for T20 cricket. His bat comes from straight and high, his front leg clears out of the way to make for a whip-like swing, and his supple wrists often break to change direction, adding power to his aerial strikes.
Nawaz's extraordinary start to his Pakistan career included scores of 0, 0, 105*, 1, 0 in a series in New Zealand. While his opponents at the international level have not been of the greatest quality so far, Nawaz is Pakistan's first T20 purist since Shahid Afridi.
In the 2025 PSL, Nawaz slammed 399 runs, averaging 57 and striking at 162. During his hundred, Nawaz backed away off his fourth ball and slapped Ben Sears through cover for his first boundary.
As Nawaz prepares to face at least one high-class outfit, India, at the Asia Cup, skepticism may rise if he does poorly. However, with his impressive statistics and growing confidence, Nawaz is poised to continue his successful T20 journey.
It is important to note that cricket statistics can change frequently, so it is essential to verify the latest data to obtain the most accurate information.
Notable Players with a Strike Rate of 150 or More
In the T20-Cricket-Bilanz for Vollmitgliedsstaaten, there are several well-known players who have scored more than 400 runs and held a strike rate of 150 or more. However, none of them have managed to maintain both criteria simultaneously. Here are some of the notable players:
- Rohit Sharma (Indien): Rohit Sharma has scored over 3,000 runs, making him one of the top batsmen in this format. However, his strike rate is not over 150, which excludes him from the given condition.
- Virat Kohli (Indien): Virat Kohli has scored significantly more than 4,000 runs, but his strike rate is also not over 150.
- Glenn Maxwell (Australien): Glenn Maxwell is known for his aggressive playing style and has a strike rate of over 150 in T20Is. However, he has not scored more than 1,000 runs.
- Jos Buttler (England): Jos Buttler has a strike rate over 150 in T20Is and has scored more than 2,000 runs. However, he is not the only player who has scored over 1,000 runs.
- AB de Villiers (Südafrika): AB de Villiers has a strike rate of over 150, but in T20Is, he has not scored more than 1,000 runs, as he retired early from international cricket.
- Suryakumar Yadav (Indien): Suryakumar Yadav is the only player who has scored more than 1,000 runs and simultaneously maintains a strike rate of over 150. His impressive batting statistics have made him one of the top players in T20 cricket. At the time of my last update, he was among the leading players who met these criteria. However, the rankings can change over time.
