Park Prepares for Launch at Dunstanall
The racing scene is abuzz as Wolverhampton Racecourse's new purpose-built track, Dunstall Park, hosts its inaugural event on Monday morning. This marks the transfer of the racing operation from Perry Barr, promising an exciting new chapter for greyhound racing.
Martin Seal, previously the racing manager at Perry Barr, has taken over the same role at Dunstall Park. Seal, along with all available trainers from Perry Barr, has made the move to the new venue. Seal expressed his anticipation for the first meeting, hoping to have no vacant traps.
The traps at the new venue are of the up and over type, requiring dogs to adjust. However, most of the dogs that have qualified have performed at levels similar to what was expected from Perry Barr, although their times are quicker on the new track. The new track's bends are described as lovely and smooth, a factor that could potentially improve the performances of the dogs.
One of the dogs expected to perform well is Simon Deakin's Ratchies Sapphire, starting from trap one at 1.16. The report suggests that the track suits Ratchies Sapphire, and she could potentially improve from her last trial.
The racing will take place on Monday mornings, Wednesday evenings, Thursday afternoons, and Friday evenings. A one-off Saturday night meeting is scheduled for September 27, featuring trial stakes for the PGR Oaks and supporting opens.
The PGR Oaks, a Category One competition, will start on Friday, October 3 and conclude on a gala card on Friday, October 24. The Arc Scurry Cup, another Category Two competition, will also take place at Dunstall Park with its final on October 24.
For those interested in greyhound betting, Betano offers markets. New customers can receive £30 in free bets when wagering £10 (under certain terms and conditions). The report from the opening fixture at Dunstall Park will be available in Tuesday's Racing Post.
This is the first of four scheduled meetings at the new venue this week. The first customer fixture and official launch at Dunstall Park will take place on Friday, September 19. The estimated 480m track record for the new venue is expected to be around 27.40sec to 27.50sec.
