"Performance of play 'GHEHEIMPLAN GEGEN DEUTSCHLAND' by Schauspiel Köln and CORRECTIV marks the commencement of a prolonged concentration on 'Theatre and Journalism'"
The Cologne Theater is set to embark on an exciting new venture, collaborating with public-interest media house CORRECTIV for at least five years in a project titled "Theater and Journalism". This collaboration promises to bring investigative research to the stage in the coming years, starting with the premiere performance of the play "Secret Plan Against Germany" on September 10.
The play delves into the euphemism of fascist ideology known as "Remigration", raising questions about the agenda of the Potsdam meeting, including potential plans for mass deportation of people from Germany, including citizens with migrant backgrounds. The subject matter is based on the CORRECTIV revelation of a secret meeting of far-right actors in Potsdam in January 2024.
Kay Voges, artistic director of the Cologne Theater, emphasizes the importance of making the complexity of the present tangible in the age of alternative facts. Anette Dowideit, editor-in-chief of CORRECTIV, adds that theater opens up new access points to make the complexity of reality understandable and experienced.
The play is a reflection on the conflict between artistic ambition, public debate, and political backlash. It is a thought-provoking exploration that promises to engage audiences in a meaningful conversation about the state of the nation.
On the same evening as the performance, CORRECTIV will reveal new details about the Potsdam meeting on their website. For those unable to attend the live performance, it will be streamed for free on www.splkln.de and the CORRECTIV website.
The collaboration between the Cologne Theater and CORRECTIV extends beyond this initial production, with five productions planned for the 2025/26 season alone. This partnership promises to bring compelling and relevant stories to the stage, fostering a deeper understanding of the issues that shape our world.
The play "Secret Plan Against Germany" was previously staged at the Berliner Ensemble in 2024, with actor Andreas Beck participating. This upcoming performance at the Cologne Theater is set to be a must-see event for anyone interested in exploring the complexities of our contemporary society. Mark your calendars for September 10, 7:30 PM, and join the conversation.
