Person forcibly detained and physically harmed, Ontario Provincial Police hunt for culprit along Algonquin Trail
A woman reported a sexual assault at a motel on Raglan Street North in Renfrew, Ontario, on Thursday. The Renfrew OPP are urging the male suspect to contact them to turn himself in, as an arrest warrant is being sought for him in the case.
The suspect is described as a male, five feet nine inches to six feet tall, with hair on the top of his head and the sides shaved. He has a goatee and tattoos above his left eyebrow and under his left eye. The suspect was last seen wearing a purple plaid jacket, possibly black shorts, and a blue shirt.
On Thursday evening, a shelter-in-place was issued for the area just after 9 p.m. out of an abundance of caution. Officers asked anyone who sees the male suspect or any suspicious activity in the area to call 911 immediately. The shelter-in-place was lifted shortly before 1 a.m. on Friday.
The suspect fled from police officers who went to investigate the sexual assault report at the motel. According to the victim's report, the suspect was in possession of a handgun. An extensive search for the suspect was conducted by police, including additional officers and specialized units. However, the search continued throughout the evening but it appeared he had managed to flee from the area.
The suspect is known to the victim, and the OPP are warning people not to approach him. Anyone with any information, or potentially relevant doorbell, dashcam or surveillance video, is asked to call the Renfrew OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E251166365 or Crime Stoppers. The OPP are also asking anyone who sees the male suspect or any suspicious activity in the area to call 911 immediately.
No threat to the general public was believed to exist during the search for the suspect. The OPP assure the public that they are doing everything in their power to locate the suspect and bring him to justice. They encourage anyone with information to come forward and help in the investigation.
