Altona 93 Back in Regionaliga Nord Under Bergmann's Leadership

Altona 93, a traditional football club from the north of Germany, has returned to the Regionaliga Nord after a brief stint in the Hamburger Oberliga. The club, coached by Andreas Bergmann, is currently the best-performing promoted team after seven matchdays in the league.

Bergmann, who has worked in the top four leagues for Hansa Rostock, VfL Bochum, Hannover 96, and FC St. Pauli, took charge of Altona 93 over five years ago and has been at the helm for 174 competitive games. His greatest coaching success was with FC St. Pauli in Hamburg.

Last season, Altona 93 found themselves relegated directly as 18th in the 17/18 season. However, due to the pandemic, the club remained in the league and returned to the Regionaliga Nord for the fifth time.

In the 21/22 season, Altona 93 faced VfB Lübeck, a formidable opponent, in both home and away games. The results were not in Altona 93's favour, with a 3:0 defeat at home and a 7:0 loss away. These defeats came against the league's current form teams, VfB Oldenburg and SSV Jeddeloh, who have recently knocked out third-tier side VfL Osnabrück from the state cup.

Despite the tough start against VfB Lübeck, Altona 93 has shown resilience. The club has earned eight points from six games in the season start, with all eight goals scored at home, at the Adolf-Jäger-Kampfbahn. However, the team has not earned any points from two away games.

Bergmann's contract with Altona 93 extends until 2026, and he was previously represented by his assistant André Trulsen in the early years before taking over the team for the 2022/23 season. Another club that emerged victorious in the group alongside Altona 93 is FSV Schöningen.

As Altona 93 continues to compete in the Regionaliga Nord, they will look to build on their early success and challenge the top teams in the league. With Bergmann at the helm, the club has a fighting chance to secure a strong position in the league and potentially replicate the success they had under his leadership at FC St. Pauli.
