In a tense encounter at TQL Stadium, the Philadelphia Union secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over FC Cincinnati, clinching a spot in the MLS play-offs for the seventh time in eight seasons.

The match, which pitted the top two teams in the Eastern Conference, was marred by a controversial sending off for Union's Olwethu Makhanya with 30 minutes remaining in the game. Makhanya was already on a disciplinary tightrope, having been booked earlier in the game.
