"Philosophical works supplement (...). Comprehensive book collection, volume VI", authored by Georges Canguilhem

Georges Canguilhem, a French philosopher who lived from 1904 to 1995, has had his complete works published in a substantial collection. The Complete Works of Georges Canguilhem spans over ten thousand pages and is divided into six volumes, with the latest, Volume VI, costing €42 and containing 1676 pages.

Canguilhem, a graduate of the École Normale Supérieure, had a distinguished career in academia. He served as inspector general, president of the agregation jury, and succeeded Bachelard at the Sorbonne. Prior to the publication of the Complete Works, his work was relatively unknown, particularly in terms of its scope and diversity.

However, Canguilhem is not a stranger to the philosophical world. He was known for his sharp judgments and was feared in the philosophical institution in France. His work in the history of science, particularly his thesis, The Formation of the Concept of Reflex in the 17th and 18th Centuries (1955; Vrin, 1999), is well-regarded.

The publication of the Complete Works is part of the "Library of Philosophical Texts." The latest volume, Volume VI, was edited by Camille Limoges and Pierre-Olivier Méthot.

One of Canguilhem's most notable works, The Normal and the Pathological (PUF, 1966), is considered a classic. This book was not mentioned in the earlier bullet points.

Canguilhem was also a student of Alain and a classmate of Sartre and Nizan in the 1920s. His work in the history of science, his time at the Sorbonne, and his role in the philosophical institution all contribute to a rich and fascinating portrait of this influential thinker.

The publication of the Complete Works of Georges Canguilhem is now complete, offering readers a comprehensive look into the life and work of this important French philosopher.
