In the tech world, rumours of potential issues with Phison SSDs and HDDs have been circulating, following claims made by a user named Necoru_cat on social media. The user alleged that Microsoft's Windows 11 24H2 security update KB5063878 was causing storage failures affecting Phison NAND controllers.

On August 27, Phison took action, conducting an investigation into potential drive failures caused by the Windows 11 version 24H2 security update KB5063878. The company performed more than 2,200 test cycles, spending 4,500 hours testing 21 SSDs for any signs of malfunction related to the Windows update. However, Phison was unable to reproduce any of the drive failure results reported online.

Nekorusukii's claims picked up steam, leading Phison to issue an official statement to Tom's Hardware. The company denied any involvement in the drive failures caused by the Windows 11 update.

The concerns about Phison SSDs and HDDs were not limited to Necoru_cat's findings. NichePCGamer added fuel to the SSD failure drama by listing several more drives with which it claims users have had issues.

However, a fake document suggesting Phison's controllers are to blame for the SSD issues has been circulated among customers. The authenticity of the fake document is uncertain, leading to speculation about a potential conspiracy to tarnish Phison's reputation.

The Reddit community has been actively discussing the issue, with a thread highlighting the matter containing arguments for both sides. Some users report similar SSD issues, while others warn of waiting for more information before pointing fingers.

Phison will continue monitoring the situation in collaboration with its industry partners. Despite the ongoing investigations, it's important to note that not all SSDs have been reported to experience issues, and some users have reported no problems at all.

In one case, Nekorusukii had one drive - the WD Blue SA510 using a non-Phison controller - fail completely with data unrecoverable. This suggests that the issue might not be exclusive to Phison SSDs, and further investigations are needed to confirm the root cause of the reported problems.

As the tech community continues to discuss and investigate these issues, it's crucial to approach the information with a critical eye. Misinformation and conspiracy theories can easily cloud the facts, making it important to rely on credible sources for updates on this developing story.
