Police Accuse Father of Disclosing son's Troubles: Kerala Dad Speaks Out Against Alleged Police Misconduct

In March 2025, a disturbing incident unfolded in the town of Ettumanoor, Kerala. Abhay S. Rajeev, a former SFI activist, was allegedly assaulted by Circle Inspector Ansil and four policemen from the Ettumanoor police station.

The incident began when Abhay was nearly knocked down by a private bus speeding along an unauthorized route. Following this, Abhay was reportedly subjected to a brutal attack at the Ettumanoor private bus stand. After the initial assault, his mobile phone and bike were damaged.

Abhay was later taken to the Janamaithri Mediation Centre near Ettumanoor station, where he was subjected to another attack. The location of the second attack was an area without CCTV surveillance, making it difficult to gather concrete evidence.

The father of Abhay has come forward with allegations of police brutality and harassment against his son. He has claimed that higher authorities have been repeatedly informed about the incidents but no action has been taken. In addition, he has accused the former SP of Pathanamthitta, Harishankar, of submitting false reports about his son Abhay, leading to the revocation of his and his brother's caste-related status.

The police allegedly falsely invoked the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA Act) against Abhay. This alleged misuse of power led to the KAAPA Advisory Board quashing the action against Abhay, and they criticized the Ettumanoor police for their actions.

Senior officers are accused of conspiring to portray Abhay as a drug addict and an anti-social element. The father has also accused former Pathanamthitta SP V.G. Vinod Kumar of submitting false reports that led to the cancellation of his and his brother's caste status.

Complaints have been filed with the Chief Minister, Prime Minister, Governor, DGP, Human Rights Commission, and SC/ST Commission, but justice has not been delivered after six months. The father has vowed to continue his legal battle to pursue justice.

Abhay is currently under treatment for depression as a result of the alleged assault. The Kerala High Court has stayed the cancellation of the father and brother's caste status. An FIR was reportedly registered against the father, and steps were initiated to cancel Abhay's driving licence.

This case has raised concerns about police brutality and the misuse of power in Kerala. The father's relentless pursuit of justice serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, is treated with dignity and respect.
