The International Police Association (IPA) Essen recently hosted a family festival in collaboration with the GdP Essen/Mülheim and the Regional Association Essen, Mülheim, and Bottrop in Kettwig. The event was attended by high-profile visitors, including Minister-President Hendrik Wüst and Mayor Thomas Kufen.

With around 650 police officers as members, the IPA in Essen is a significant part of the local community. The organisation, which has around 370,000 members in 68 countries, also operates the Police Museum in Essen, located at Theodor-Althof-Str. 4. Visits to the museum are free of charge after prior registration at [email protected].

During the family festival, members of the IPA were seen touring in historical police uniforms, adding a touch of tradition to the festivities. The event came amidst a challenging time for both the IPA and the local authorities, as they were recently involved in a knife attack of a teenager on a teacher last Friday.

Minister-President Hendrik Wüst took the opportunity to express his gratitude and emphasise the importance of the police and the rescue service, including the police service of the Johanniter. He thanked them for their dedication and hard work, highlighting their crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of the community.

It serves as a testament to the commitment and service of the IPA members, both past and present.

In these challenging times, the collaboration between the IPA, the GdP, and the Regional Association serves as a reminder of the strength and unity of the local community. The family festival provided an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate, and express their appreciation for the hard work of the police and rescue services.
