Police Crackdown on Heavy Goods and Hazardous Materials at Forest Rantzau Rest Area

On Monday, July 14, 2025, a comprehensive control of heavy goods and hazardous materials was carried out at the Forest Rantzau rest area on the A23. The operation was led by the Elmshorn Police Highway and District Office.

The control saw the inspection of a total of 71 trucks between 9:00 and 13:00. Unfortunately, for 3 vehicles, the journey had to be prohibited due to various violations. The oversight of the control was handled by supporting forces from traffic police stations in Bad Segeberg, Heide, Brunsbüttel, and Neumünster, as well as the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility.

The current head of the Police Directorate Bad Segeberg, Ralph Garschke, oversaw the operation. For those seeking more information, the Press Office for Polizeidirektion Bad Segeberg can be contacted at Dorfstr. 16-18, 23795 Bad Segeberg. Jens Zeidler can be reached at the Press Office via telephone: 04551-884-2020 or email: [email protected].

During the control, several offenses were detected. In five cases, the drivers did not secure their loads properly, resulting in fines of 60 euros against the drivers. Thirty-one drivers exceeded their driving and rest times, punishable by several hundred euros in fines. Another offense detected was defective lighting or overdue main inspections.

One of the most significant findings was an oversized load transporting construction machinery that did not comply with the permitted dimensions. As a result, the journey of the oversized load was prohibited, and a profit withdrawal procedure was initiated against the logistics company to recover the economic advantage gained by the overloading.

The logistics industry in Germany is known for its high competition, often leading to violations of traffic regulations due to high vehicle utilization and driving personnel usage. Despite this, the share of goods traffic in Germany has been at a consistently high level for years.
