Police in Darmstadt halted a sprinter due to overloading, preventing it from proceeding further.
In a recent incident, a 3.5-tonne Sprinter truck was found overweight on the A5 highway in South Hesse. The vehicle, which belonged to an unidentified company, was stopped by the traffic inspection on Monday evening.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that the empty weight of the vehicle was heavier than the permitted 3.5-tonne limit, with the actual weight recorded at 6300 kilograms. This exceeded the legal weight limit by a significant margin.
As a result, the police prohibited further travel and ordered the cargo to be unloaded. The driver of the truck, a 34-year-old man, was also found to have no records of his driving and rest times, raising further concerns.
After unloading, the empty weight of the original Sprinter was found to be 3590 kilograms, a more acceptable weight for a vehicle of its class. However, a proper registration as a 3.5-tonner was not possible due to the vehicle's initial weight.
Following the incident, the license plates of the vehicle were removed, and the case was handed over to the registration office in Darmstadt. The company, in response, sent a replacement vehicle on Tuesday, but the search results do not provide specific information about which company sent the replacement truck.
It is worth noting that overloaded vehicles are frequently observed during traffic controls, and some companies are reported to disregard overloading violations. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to weight limits and regulations for the safety of all road users.
The 34-year-old driver, having returned to his home country via train, and the company are now facing fines in the four-digit range. This incident underscores the need for strict enforcement of traffic regulations and the importance of responsible driving practices.
