Police sergeant in Las Vegas accused of manipulating crime data through illicit arrests, according to an investigation.

A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sergeant, Kevin Menon, has found himself in hot water after being indicted on 13 charges. The arrests, made along with his unit of officers on the Las Vegas Strip in April and May this year, have been called into question, with allegations of "probably illegal tactics" being levelled against Menon.

The investigation into Menon's actions began in May, following a complaint from an officer within the Metro police union. The case has since gained momentum, with videos surfacing that form the backbone of the case.

In one video, Menon is seen attempting to hand two men fraudulent money. In another, he bumped into a man on a pedestrian bridge, suggesting he was trying to instigate a violent interaction. A different video showed Menon pushing an officer who didn't realize he was a sergeant in plain clothes.

The indictment is due to Menon illegally arresting people without probable cause. He was indicted on nine counts of oppression under color of office, two counts of subornation of perjury, oppression under color of office with immediate threat or use of physical force, and battery of a protected officer.

Menon was seen in the videos in plain clothes, while his officers wore uniforms. It was not previously known to the police officer that he had been placed on unpaid leave and relieved of his police powers before his arrest. The officer is scheduled to appear again in court, but the exact date of the next court appearance is not specified in the search results.

Menon will appear in court again on October 23. The videos showing multiple arrests made by Menon and his unit on the Strip in April and May this year have raised concerns about the integrity of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the conduct of its officers.
