Potential Headline: "Considering the 10th Day of Accessibility Protests - What Are the Possibilities?"
In the heart of Essen, on September 9, 2025, the "Action Day Barrier-Free - What if..." event will unfold, inviting everyone to explore the diversity and significance of barrier-free living from 11 am to 3 pm at Old Church Square, Altenessener Straße 423.
This unique event, supported by various institutions from the northern part of Essen, aims to provide hands-on experiences that foster a new understanding of the situations and living conditions of people with disabilities. The supporting institutions include Zentrum 60plus Hoevelstrasse, Zentrum 60plus International of the AWO Kreisverband Essen e.V., the city service and energy-saving service of the NEW WORK of the Diakonie Essen working aid and vocational promotion non-profit GmbH, and others, yet to be specified.
Participants can look forward to practical hands-on activities such as a wheelchair and rollator course, an aging simulation suit, and more, designed to offer personal experiences that challenge perceptions and promote empathy.
The theme of this year's event is "Everyday life without barriers?!", encouraging participants to question, discuss, and creatively address the elimination of spatial and social barriers. Support offers and possibilities that enable all people to lead a self-determined life, regardless of age, origin, gender, sexual orientation, or possible limitations, will be presented.
The event is funded through the "Promotion Plan Essen Inclusive" of our city portal and issued by the Press and Communications Office of our city portal, located at Rathaus, Porscheplatz, 45121 Essen. For questions, Antje Behnsen from Zentrum 60plus Hoevelstrasse can be contacted at 0201 84320545, 0178 8728942, or [email protected]. Diverse information and support offers will be available during the event, making it an excellent opportunity for everyone interested to experience the diversity and significance of barrier-free living in a practical way. The preparation committee warmly welcomes further participants and invites them to participate in future action days.
