In the picturesque district of Cochem-Zell, the Waterways and Shipping Authority Mosel-Saar-Lahn has announced the installation of a new lock gate at Mosel Lock St. Aldegund. This decision comes in response to a recent ship accident that occurred in early July, which resulted in damage to the lower gate of the lock.

The ship accident involved a collision with the closed lower gate of the lock, causing significant damage. Since the incident, the lock has been operating in emergency mode.

Tobias Schmidt, a representative from the Waterways and Shipping Authority Mosel-Saar-Lahn, confirmed the earlier installation of the new lock gate at Mosel Lock St. Aldegund. He further stated that the work on the installation will close the lock to shipping traffic, and the lock will be closed during this period.

Initially, the installation was scheduled for November 3 to 7. However, due to the urgency caused by the ship accident, it has been moved up to take place between October 27 and November 1. The new lock gate is being installed by the Waterways and Shipping Authority Mosel-Saar-Lahn.

Following the installation, the lock is expected to resume normal operation on November 1. The new ship lift gate at the St. Aldegund Moselle lock will be put into service earlier than planned, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the lock system.

Despite the disclosure of the installation schedule, the Waterways and Shipping Authority Mosel-Saar-Lahn has not disclosed details about the ship accident that necessitated the early installation of the new lock gate at Mosel Lock St. Aldegund.

This move to reinforce and repair the lock gate at Mosel Lock St. Aldegund is a testament to the authority's commitment to maintaining the safety and efficiency of the waterways in the region. The installation of the new lock gate is expected to improve the overall operation of the Mosel Lock St. Aldegund and ensure smooth navigation for ships in the future.
