Pregnancy doctor advocates for CrossFit exercise routines for expectant mothers
=============================================================================
In the heart of Madison, Wisconsin, a unique bond is being forged between a physician, her patients, and the local CrossFit community at CrossFit Sanctify. Dr. Laura Hanks, an OBGYN, is not just a healthcare provider to her patients—she's also their workout partner.
Dr. Hanks, a mother herself, is a valued member of CrossFit Sanctify. She has delivered three babies for her fellow gym members and friends, including Colleen Nyberg and Amber Earlywine. Colleen, who was delivered by Dr. Hanks, shares her gratitude for the decision to keep up her workouts during pregnancy.
"Maintaining my health during pregnancy benefits both myself and my baby," Colleen explains. "CrossFit Sanctify's approach to pregnancy and childbirth allows for a unique experience for the mothers involved."
Colleen is not alone in her sentiments. Rachel Strauch-Nelson, another friend of Dr. Hanks, has also kept up CrossFit during her pregnancy and was delivered by the physician. Colleen and Rachel, along with Amber, all express a sense of gratitude for the special support they received from the gym, clinic, and hospital during their pregnancies.
Dr. Hanks emphasises the safety of hitting the gym during pregnancy, albeit with some slight variations. She continues her workouts at CrossFit Sanctify, modifying exercises as her pregnancy progresses. Her patients, including Amber and Colleen, also continue to make modifications to their workouts post-pregnancy.
"It's a special experience to deliver friends," Dr. Hanks says. "I feel a unique connection with these mothers, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to support them through this important journey."
The unique relationship between Dr. Hanks and her patients is a testament to the supportive and inclusive environment at CrossFit Sanctify. The gym, clinic, and hospital continue to provide special support for pregnant mothers, making it possible for women like Colleen, Amber, and Rachel to maintain their fitness journeys throughout their pregnancies and beyond.
For these CrossFit moms, the gym isn't just a place to work out—it's a place where they feel more like themselves, even during pregnancy. Colleen, for one, feels more like herself while pregnant and working out at CrossFit Sanctify.
"It's comforting to know that I can continue my workouts with modifications, and that I have the support of my friends, my doctor, and the CrossFit community," Colleen says. "I feel empowered to take care of myself and my baby, and I'm grateful for this experience."
